Lucas Chronicles: Allergic Reaction

Now that we have calmed down.......About two and a half hours ago Lucas had an allergic reaction to PEG-Asparaginase. He was sleeping and then said "no, no, no". Rina noticed that he was turning red, was having difficulty breathing then went limp and started turning blue. She alerted the nurse and the entire staff on the floor came. I quickly followed as I was getting ice and snacks for us.

Lu
cas has been given medicine to counteract the allergic reaction and will be monitored regularly and is getting oxygen. It was a very terrifying moment for us. The nurses and doctors are aware this can happen and tell you, but you never expect it. Lucas is stable and sleeping right now. Since we can't use this drug anymore we are switching over another version. If he has a reaction to this one then we don't use this drug EVER again.

We want to thank the entire staff of the 17th floor for their immediate response and attention to Lucas. Especially to Caitlin our nurse today. She was clearly shaken up as well but did her best to remain calm and do her job. Her reaction reminds me that she is still human and still has emotions even if this is her job. We all need to support each other. Feel free to call us if you want to talk.
